Campus Phase Week is a highly anticipated annual event, bringing students, lecturers, alumni, and the SEE team together for workshops, lectures, and networking.
The Campus Phase Week of the Solar Energy Engineering program offered an enriching blend of academic learning, hands-on experience, and connection. It offers three days of lab workshops at Fraunhofer ISE followed by three days of engaging academic and social events. The event offered participants a chance to deepen their understanding of solar energy technologies while connecting with with fellow students, faculty, and alumni. Here’s a look back at the highlights from the week:
The event began with a welcome lecture by Prof. Dr. Anke Weidlich, followed by a captivating lecture on "Optics for Photovoltaics" by Dr. Oliver Höhn. In the afternoon, we took a step back in time with a historical tour of Freiburg. Guided by Historix-Tours, we explored the charming streets of this Freiburg im Breisgau, learning about its rich cultural history. The highlight of the day was the Graduation Ceremony, where recent graduates were honored for their academic achievements. This ceremony celebrated the dedication and hard work of our graduates.
To conclude the day, an informal social dinner was held, providing a valuable opportunity for networking and connecting. Students, lecturers, alumni, and program staff came together to share experiences, discuss future opportunities, and build professional relationships in a relaxed setting.
The second day of Campus Phase Week featured an exclusive visit to the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE). After a welcome address by Dr. Gerald Siefer and a presentation by Florian Bierwirth on second life for E-bike batteries, students toured labs at Fraunhofer ISE, including the Multimegawatt and Medium Voltage Labs and the TestLab Power Electronics.
In the afternoon, two students from the program, Mohamad Abbasi and Andrew Milad, shared their own research projects. Mohamad presented his work on water treatment and material separation, while Andrew discussed his research on Agri-Photovoltaics.
The day concluded with additional tours at the Center for Heating and Cooling Technologies, where participants had the chance to learn more about water treatment technologies and the testing of energy systems.
The final day of the Campus Phase Week offered a more relaxed yet equally enjoyable experience. Students and SEE management team took a trip to Titisee, a picturesque lakeside town near Freiburg im Breisgau. The day was filled with scenic walks along the lake, informal discussions, and opportunities to connect with peers in a more relaxed setting. This excursion was the perfect way to close out the Campus Phase Week.
A huge thank you to all the participants who made this event a success. From the insightful lectures and Lab workshops to memorable social moments, this week was a fantastic opportunity for everyone involved to learn and connect. We look forward to next year's Campus Phase Week!
